Good Friday - 9th April 2004
A disappointing turnout for the Millennium Bridge Novelty Race. Five boats intended to start but only four crossed the start line and rounded the first mark, 'A', - leaving it to starboard.
It was a miserable day with a sea mist/drizzle restricting visibility to approximately 200 metres. The wind was a light breeze from the west. Not the weather to encourage us to get out on the water or spend the night in an anchorage! I'm full of admiration for those who overcome the elements.
Many thanks to Doug & Chris Gorton who manned the Patrol Boat in such miserable cold conditions.
Once again Nick and Helen were too keen and over the start line before the gun. After a hasty return they soon caught up with the others as they rounded the first mark.
Sadly the Post Boat with David Nicholls, Michael Speight and Melanie Vause were unable to combat the tide and cross the start line. Sadly because they were first on the water and the only boat ready by the scheduled start time. However I'm sure they enjoyed their sail up to Lancaster.
Dave & Chris Booth lead the fleet up to Lancaster in Plane Jane, the only cruiser taking part to support the Maritime Festival.
